Girlgeekette.net new look and SEO

I was getting so frustrated with themes.. some had parts working I wanted, too much colour here and there.. so I decided to strip down a theme I liked to the very basics. From here, I will get the structure working the way I want it too, then I will go back and tweak it to the colours and graphics I want.

My whole thing with this site is to make it as much sEO as possible. It started out with a 6/10 from google.com. Now that I have stripped it and made it bare and SEO, it still retaines a 6/10. I wonder if someone at google doesn't pay attention to these things? I want to improve this one and http://www.aleeya.net.

http://www.aleeya.net is already very popular with search engines. Part of the reason I named the new one http://www.girlgeekette.net and kept the non technical site as http://www.aleeya.net . But, from previousl, Aleeya.net only had a 4/10 on google's page rank when I used PHPnuke. When I switched to wordpress, I thought that the new version which is very SEO, would up the rank. So far, it has not. It is stil only a 4. Girlgeekette.net has scored higher and has only been up a couple of months and does not have near the traffic linking to it that aleeya.net does.

So.. back to work to try to figure this out!

Aleeya.net Gets a new Home and a New Name

What is this? Do your eyes deceive you?

Not at all!

As much as I have loved working on Aleeya.net, I was never able to get it "just right" like I wanted to. I think I have figured out why. I want it to be a technical site and able to hold all of my records for tec info.. but that the same time I
want it to be a personal site where I can play, where I can write about me, my life...

So.. I fell in love with the domain Girl Geekette
dotNet
" and I secured the .net and .com of it.

Aleeya.net - what it is known as today - will soon become my personal site. I am in the process of transferring everything over now.

Aleeya.net: Before there was the Geekette, there was a girl...

Girl Geekette dotNet - Where the Girl Ends and the Geekette Begins.

Personally, I think it will fit together quite nicely!

Now, as usual, I have no idea when this will be done.. I am at least hoping by New Years 2006 :)

So far so... well...

Well, so far so good. I was able to get the apache server working and get the basics of a website to work. It is going to take a while! I have no idea what I want to uise for themes, colours or any of it..

The Projects

My latest projects are:
Creating GirlGeekette and trying to get my house straigntened!

Project 1:
Girl Geekette.net - I posted about that in the previous post. I will keep a running log here of how I am doing.

Project 2:
After moving here 2 months ago, I still have most rooms packed with boxes. I have just moved everything out of my bedroom and attempted to set up the Electronics in the livivng room.

Project: How to get all of my Entertainment stuff all connected and working right.

Includes:
XBox
PS2
TV
DVD Player (some DVDs will not work on the PS2 or XBox.. so I keep this around)
Replay
Dish reciever
Pelican HD 4 switch type thingee for the ethernet and audio/video
Wireless Ethernet Gaming adapter - I dont want a cable across all the way to the living room!

Challenge: Make them all fit and work as well as be asthetically pleasing

Bigger Challenge: I SUCK at electronics. 3 years ago when I went from a Cable box, VCR and a Tv to a DVD instead of a VCR, I had to have a friend connect them all for me. I was clueless as to what audio/video cables were and how to hook them up to get them all to work. To this day, I am no better with them. This is confusing to me!

It has begun...

With Aleeya, net (http://www.aleeya.net) my husband helped me with the webserver, apache, php, msyql and the like. This time it is my turn.

What better way to learn the ins and outs of a webserver than to build it from scratch.

I am tempting fate once again and trying to do this from the beginning on my own. I have a liunx box as a firewall my husband has helped me with. Now, I want to see if I can set up apache and all of the modules, as well as learn how to do virtual hosting on my own. We shall see...

Right now, I am not doing the DNS. That will come later though.

I am in the middle of isntalling apache and configuring it to be my webserver. We shall see how it goes!

What kind of name is girlgeekette.net ??

During the creation of Aleeya.net (http://www.aleeya.net) , learning about computers, being a tech, marrying a tech, working in a male domainted field and so on.. I have read and heard so many comments about how few female techs or geeks there are when it comes to computers.

I happen to be proud to be one of these few. I thought Girl Geekette described me (even though it may read redundant) and I thought it was catchy. Those who know me know that I come up with some strange names..

When my husband and I worked together, I was doing some on site tec calls. One day while in the bathroom, I joked and called it NetGeeks to describe us. Network or Internet Geeks.

Later, after the store closed, my husband and his friend retained the name and became NetGeeks Online to host game and web servers.

A few days ago, I was in the shower and thought up GirlGeekette.net . As I said, I thought it was catchy and descibed me. I wanted a personal site, and what better way to live it than come up with something as different as I am :)

What is it with me and bathrooms? In a twisted way, they are becoming an inspiration.
ACK

DNS and Domain

I have bought the domain's girlgeekette.net and girlgeekette.com.

My husband added the domains to his DNS.

So, soon, the website will begin :)

Aleeeya.net will still exist - it will just become my informative site. Eventually, I will probabally redo it. GirlGeekette.net will be my personal site. This is where my sandbox will be and all of the personal stuff that I want to add will go here.

Why did I get .net and .com ? Well, this day and age, it is becoming harder and harder to get .com addresses. Also, I figure I will go by the .net address, but .com is so easy to remember.. So I will have the .com redirected to .net.
